In order to promote the effectiveness of policies for innovative growth pursued by the Korean government, this study aims to produce policy implications through a case study of efforts ongoing in Japan.
While the majority of domestic research on the 4th Industrial Revolution has focused on producing a new economic growth paradigm through technological innovation and fusion or promoting international competitiveness, we take an approach from the perspective of exploring sustainable economic growth and solving social challenges.
Analysis of Competition Policies in the US and EU in the Era of Fusion and Convergence between Industries
This study analyzes cases of market dominance abuse and business combination occurring in an environment of fusion and convergence between homeogenous and heterogeneous industries and the rise of the platform economy, all of which form the basis for the 4th Industrial Revolution. By examining measures taken by the competition authorities in the US and EU, we identify policy implications for Korea’s economic policy within an environment where the boundary between industries is increasingly blurred and new competition structures are formed.
Analysis of Intra-Bloc Consolidation of EU Labor Markets and Policy Implications
We review current developments in the consolidation of labor markets within the EU, evaluate actual consolidation levels, and analyze how consolidation of labor markets affects individual countries’ labor markets and major variables across the entire economy. Through this process we aim to identify any side effects unforeseen at the time of consolidating labor markets and produce alternative policy measures to counter these effects in advance.
Ten-Year Anniversary of Joining the OECD DAC: Achievements and Tasks Ahead
The main purpose of this study will be to evaluate the achievements Korea has seen over the past ten years in the area of ODA, from the perspective of each sector and region.
Korea’s achievements in ODA can be further promoted by improving the mechanism for effective monitoring, evaluation and feedback. Objective evaluation on Korea’s ODA is made possible by collecting the opinions of major stakeholders and, in particular, the local governments of recipient nations and international agencies.
Structural Changes and Policy Directions in Korea’s Current Account Balance
In response to changes in the global and domestic environment, this study provides basic references on the factors that determine exchange rate and current account balance, building on the findings of previous research. Estimates are performed to define the relationships between exchange rate, current account balance and major macroeconomic variables. These analyses aim at providing the government with solid grounds to implement concrete policy directions.
Ten Years of International Macroprudential Policies: Achievements and Improvement Plans
Macroprudential policy measures implemented and in operation by advanced and emerging economies, including Korea, are reviewed and evaluated for their policy effectiveness. Based on these evaluations, implications for international prudential policies are drawn.
A Study on the Effects of Credit Expansion on Economic Growth and Financial Crisis
In this study we analyze the structure through which credit expansion conveys an effect on economic growth and/or the risk of financial crisis. We measure the risk of financial crisis amid a trend of expansive monetary policies throughout the world. Credit expansion is classified into categories such as increased household debt, corporate debt or government debt.
International Spread of Unilateral Trade Policies and Changes in Trade Structures
The latest developments and characteristics of trade policies in major economies are identified, enabling a multi-faceted examination on international trade structures and empirical analysis of the international spread of unilateral trade policies, trade costs, and changes in trade structures. We also test various scenarios to measure the effect that such unilateral trade policies have on future global value chains, providing reference for the modification and improvement of mid- to long-term government policies.
Trade Law Issues and Economic Impact of New FTA Trade Rules: Centered on Environment and Labor Issues
This study will be conducted to understand the current situation and characteristics of the environment upon which new-generation rules, and in particular chapters on labor issues, are incorporated into free trade agreements. The analysis is performed from the perspective of trade law and economic concerns, thus providing important policy implications for the Korean government when it seeks to expand bilateral or multilateral FTAs, or formulate stronger legislation in the areas of the environment and labor upon request by an existing FTA partner.
International Dialogue on Intellectual Property Issues and Their Effects
In this study we will review international trends in discussions on intellectual property issues and measure the potential effect of intellectual property on trade. We also take a look at major intellectual property issues within Korea to contribute to establishing trade strategies in the area.

We analyze changes in Korea’s employment structures caused by changes in trade structure from multiple perspectives, closely examining jobs relocations by industry, occupation and job function. We aim to understand the current status of India’s ecosystem for start-ups, with the goal of offering policy implications. Empirical study is conducted to understand the development of the ecosystem for start-ups in India, analyze the differences between India and Korea in their support policies for start-up firms, identify the characteristics of start-ups advancing into the Indian market and their demand for policy support, and to better understand the factors that decide the competitiveness of start-ups.
