In this study we examine response measures for the Fourth Industrial revolution at major economies (the U.S., Germany, Japan), through which we aim to produce policy implications in areas worthy for the Korean government to benchmark or review when establishing industrial policies.

An analysis of the effect that the “fair economy” initiative is having on “innovative growth,” both being major axes for economic policies under the current Korean government. In particular, we aim to perform an economic analysis of how transaction practices between firms in a vertical transaction structure affect their capacity for innovation.

Economic impact and implications of the New Protectionism
In this study we perform an analysis of the impact of U.S. new protectionist measures on trade in each nation and industry, making considerations for linkages by nation and industry to determine how non-tariff policies at different countries affect investment flows (FDI) in a direct or indirect manner. We also perform an empirical analysis between trade protectionism and macroeconomic variables in Korea, such as its GDP, CPI, exports, exchange rate, IP and loan rates, thus producing valuable implications for balanced policies.
Fifteen years of FTAs in Korea: achievements and policy implications
Focusing on major non-tariff measures, we analyze the achievements that Korea has seen through its free trade agreements (FTAs) from multiple perspectives, producing implications for the improvement of future FTAs and related policy.
The impact of expansion in domestic and foreign securities investment on foreign exchange rates and foreign exchange soundness
In light of the rapid increase of domestic and foreign investment in the Korean stock market, we examine how such changes may impact Korea’s exchange rate and foreign exchange soundness, exploring effective policy responses against financial instability caused by domestic and international shocks. Our analysis covers the potential effect of sharp increases in securities investment and how these could impact stability in the domestic financial market, going on to suggest possible countermeasures against such disruptive factors.
An analysis of the effect that demographic changes have on external savings in small open economies, and their policy implications
An analysis and forecast of changes in Korea’s current account, net foreign asset accumulation, etc., in light of current trends in Korea’s population changes, to explore policy measures to elevate welfare in Korea
Analysis of value chains in the New Southern region and expansion of trade in the region: focusing on India and ASEAN
As Korea prepares to pursue full-scale measures in line with its New Southern Policy in 2019, we propose feasible measures for Korea to expand its trade with the ASEAN and Indian markets, based on the principles of mutual prosperity and economic cooperation. We identify areas within the New Southern region where economic relations have prospered and those where they have failed to, thus determining areas with future growth potential and those where it will be possible to expand trade.

A comprehensive review and comparative analysis of economic cooperation governance in major economies toward Russia in the fourth Putin administration (2018–2024), based on which we explore potential governance measures for economic cooperation with the Russian economy, aiming to provide practical policy measures for the two economies to readjust their economic cooperation relationship.
Changes in the North Korean economy and new cooperation plans for North and South Korea under the Kim Jong-un regime
Here we conduct a study of the changing situation and possibilities in the North Korean economy to identify promising new areas for inter-Korean economic cooperation. The North Korean economy is analyzed from the perspective of the Kim Jong-un regime, expansion of processing trade and growth in the market, based on which we explore new forms of inter-Korean cooperation.
Comparative analysis of determinants of labor share of income in major countries
A decline in the labor share of income is a major obstacle to growth in household income. As such, we analyze and compare the determinants of labor share of income in major economies, searching for policy implications to improve the labor share of income in Korea.
Impact of withdrawal by multinational corporations and policy responses
As the withdrawal of multinational corporations has a significant negative effect on the domestic economy and labor market, we analyze the impact on the domestic economy when multinational corporations withdraw their operations from the country, examining various case studies to produce effective response measures.
A typology analysis and case study of international cooperation in major Chinese regions
In this study we examine the main contents of opening policies and international economic cooperation currently being pursued by China, together with an analysis of the strategies and types of international cooperation being conducted at the local government level. Based on these analyses, we explore promising directions to expand and promote economic cooperation between Korea and China, and in particular with Chinese local governments.
Policies to expand women's participation in economic activities by major Middle Eastern countries and Korea’s cooperation plans
This study examines the effect of policies to increase women’s economic and social participation in Saudi Arabia and other major Middle Eastern economies, aiming to identify promising areas for Korean businesses to advance into the region and to promote cooperation at the government level and between businesses.
The development of methodology to conduct demand surveys for the labor markets of emerging countries, and application to transition countries
In this study we develop the methodology to conduct a systematic survey of demand for the labor markets of emerging economies, thus allowing effective support for technical vocational education and training (TVET) programs and the construction of a platform to share basic data on these emerging markets. Quantitative and qualitative approaches are combined to develop a model that possesses a high level of both logical validity and field adaptability.
Achievements and challenges of development cooperation in vulnerable countries of the international community
This study performs a comparative analysis of support measures and their outcomes carried out by the international community in vulnerable countries, aiming to produce policy implications for Korea’s economic cooperation toward these vulnerable countries.
